Raj Kumar Gupta Law Chambers is a group of advocates based in Ranchi, appearing before the Jharkhand High Court and the trial courts, including tribunals and forums all across Jharkhand.

Criminal law

New criminal codes

Since 1 July 2024, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam have replaced the IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act for new cases.

Cheque dishonour

Time limits under s. 138

A legal notice must be sent within 30 days of learning of the dishonour. If payment is not made within 15 days of the notice, a complaint must be filed within one month after that.

Trade marks

Registration lasts ten years

A registered trade mark is valid for ten years and can be renewed for further ten-year periods. Using the ® symbol before registration is not permitted.

Copyright

Registration is optional but useful

Copyright exists from creation, but an entry in the Register of Copyrights is prima facie evidence of the particulars recorded, which helps in any dispute.

How do I book a consultation?

Do you charge for the first consultation?

Consultation fees depend on the nature of the matter and are told to you when the appointment is fixed. Fees for further work are agreed before work starts.

Can you take matters outside Ranchi?

The Jharkhand High Court hears matters from across the state, so we act for clients from every district in writ, appeal and bail matters. Trade mark and copyright filings are online and can be handled for clients anywhere in India.

How long does trade mark registration take?

If the application faces no objection or opposition, registration can follow within several months to a year. Objections and oppositions extend this. The ™ symbol can be used from the date of filing.

How will I know my next hearing date?

We inform you after every listing. You can also check case status yourself on the eCourts portal or the Jharkhand High Court website using your case number.

Can I get free legal aid?

People who are eligible under Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 can get free legal aid through the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority or the District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi. Indigent persons may also contact the chambers directly; pro bono matters are taken up at the chambers' discretion.
